– PHYSICAL FITNESS
Your physical fitness is your body’s ability to deal confidently, powerfully, and creatively with all sorts of obstacles in the world around you.
How well do you do against a treadmill at 8 miles an hour for one hour?
How well do you do pushing around a 70 pound weight for 10 minutes?
How about standing up to 100 air squats?
How about getting out of the way of dangerous situations…. a speeding car that barely grazes you on the street?
How well do you fare against carrying 5 heavy grocery bags uphill?
Without good fitness you are not ready to deal with the demands that life puts on you. And if you’re not ready… then that is when stress sets in.
If you are not fit …instead of handling things like they are “no problem” …it takes more and more of your time, energy, and resources to do common things. It may even be difficult to do the things that you used to consider easy. And your body knows this! Your body knows your limitations and will make sure that you don’t do things that push beyond it. It will hold you back.
Then.. the more a person sits…. the more they want to sit. Why is this? Because the body is saying “This is all I ‘can’ do. Now please….DON’T DO ANYMORE THAN THIS!”
We’ve all got to get out of this cycle.
Increasing your physical fitness means increasing your body’s MOVEMENT ability.
This means your body will actually WANT more movement. And once your body wants more movement… health will always follow.
This is the key to getting a good body: moving, exploring, and increasing its ability. Then the body is hungry to DO things. The joints become lubricated and open. The muscles understand what it’s like to fully contract and fully expand, breaking up adhesions and scar tissue that may be around them.
Then …those muscles can build and build and build.
This is nutrition for your body and your being.
Knowing how to move is the foundation.
When movement is overly linear the body gets BORED. It feels like a lot of work to move. It feels limiting, and both the body and mind know this. Why do you think so many people know that exercise is good for them and may initially get themselves to the gym…. start….. and then soon stop?
It’s because the body is just simply unimpressed.

Our inner system grows like a plant…
Think of it sort of like a tree.
Like the leaves of a tree our nervous system looks to reach out and branch to become more all the time.
We all want to explore, we want to understand, to play with, make new connections, and create with our world.
Our inner neurology wants this for us.
It is always saying… “What else is there?” “How else can I grow?”
Once it finds external things to “play” with.. it uses each of them to learn from and expand.
And yet, we often curtail that growth.
When our system learns a habit…. it usually sticks with that habit for a long time. It gets carved in to us and becomes us as a matter of rote. Brushing our teeth the same way. Talking with the same mannerisms. Approaching similar situations …in similar ways.
Sometimes this is good.
Other times this stops us from being able to change.
